The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Bojan Maricikj, during his visit to Brussels held a briefing with the representatives of the Working Party on the Western Balkans Region/Enlargement (COWEB / COELA) where he informed them about the process of European integration of the country, the dynamics of the implementation of the envisaged reforms and the commitment of the Government in their implementation, especially in the key areas of rule of law, public administration reform and the fight against organized crime and corruption.
At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Maricikj sent a message that we must not lose this momentum for the start of EU negotiations with North Macedonia.
- Our strategic goal remains EU membership, with full commitment to the reforms we are implementing on that path for the transformation of the society in accordance with the standards of developed EU democracies, for a better standard of living for our citizens, which is the goal of this process and EU membership, Deputy Prime Minister Maricikj said at a briefing, requesting a valuation of what has already been achieved as part of the European reform agenda.
The briefing was attended by delegates from all EU Council member states, as well as representatives of the Directorate-General for Enlargement and the European External Action Service, which is proof of the interest in Macedonia's European perspective, but also proof of the EU's commitment to the enlargement process. Through the discussion that took place at the meeting, the progress of our country was confirmed by the delegates and they expressed confidence that North Macedonia will hear good news at the upcoming June Summit.
During the day, Deputy Prime Minister Maricikj will have a tete-a-tete meeting with EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, and will also meet with the European Commission Coordinator for North Macedonia, Mark Jorna.
